It was the code word Ryan, the groom, gave me when he wanted me to take a picture for him at the reception. This may seem like nothing to you, but to me, it meant a great deal to me. I knew Amy and I got along great–but Ryan, well he’s a harder book to read. Trust me, I love figuring out grooms. I feel like a lot of times it’s a game to figure out if they, in fact, want me there or if I’m coming off as that annoying little sister (thankfully, that’s a rare feeling).
Engagements were tricky, I couldn’t tell if Ryan enjoyed taking photos which is typical of the guy initially. But there was a different vibe about Ryan on the wedding day though. He seemed lighter, more joyous. I felt that switch in him so that’s where blueberry comes in. It may seem like a silly inside code word but to me, it was a way to make my job a little more fun. It was a way to know I was needed and accepted.
So to any photographer who may feel like you’re annoying a bride or groom (you know what I’m talking about) on their wedding day because you just want to get the perfect shot– blueberry.
